Crosthwaite playgroup newsletter: May-July 2015

Well it’s that time again that I inform you on the latest news from Playgroup. We are delighted that we have so many regulars now and that they are utilizing our ‘Loyalty card’ scheme, an idea that derived from taking your suggestions and improvements into account, ‘Every little helps!’.  Pay upfront to benefit from an extra 2 sessions free (£20 for 10 sessions, equivalent just £2 a session!).  We would also like to welcome lots of new mums and their children and hope the word keeps on spreading!

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who helped in any way towards our last 2 fundraisers, our very successful Nearly New Sale and the always Successful Damson Day! Both wouldn’t have been possible without your help in generous donations & help beforehand or your help on the day! With the money combined we have raised enough for a full years running cost of the hall, therefore any further money we make will help towards renovating our resources and equipment ensuring both your children’s safety and enjoyment!

Dates for your diary

Playgroup Mum’s meeting – Thursday 21st May at the ‘Masons Arms’ Cartmel Fell from 8pm

We try to aim to have a meeting once every couple of months to discuss anything that you might think as parents would benefit the playgroup and arrange any forthcoming events which need organising.  We hope you can join us.

Half term (24th- 29th May) – Playgroup Outing at ‘Docker Park Farm, Arkholme, Carnforth, LA6 1AR

After the success of our last trip at Easter and the disappointing news of their closure on 31st May, we have decided to revisit for one last time. We hope you can join us from 10am with Picnic lunch (café is available!).  The cost is £2.50 for adults, £6.50 for over 2’s & under 2’s are free! Family discounts are available (2 adults & 2 children so worth sticking together!) Playgroup will subsidise children over 2, making it equivalent to a usual playgroup session of £2.50!

LAST session before summer!

Weather permitting I thought it would be good to mark the occasion with a picnic at the park after playgroup session. Just bring along some goodies to share & we’ll do a Jacobs join! Alternatively will have it indoors followed by a few games! Hope you can make it!

Summer Holidays (17th July - 5th September)

No usual playgroup sessions, but outings are arranged. Additional list will be available with further details a.s.a.p. We are hoping to do 2 visits a week to relieve the summer holiday blues! A local park trip (possible fee only for parking)  All main visits will be subsidised thanks to ‘The Luing Society’, a fundraising event that Mary & Alec kindly hosted last year and donated funds.

Important safety notice!

It has come to our attention on a couple of occasions that the door to the memorial hall has been left open and children have been left to wonder onto the parking area. Fortunately they were found before wondering onto the road BUT it could have been a very different story!  We take the issue of safety towards you and your children seriously and now have a safety gate between the kitchen and entrance. Please can we urge you to ensure the door is always closed (slamming it shut can cause it to jump back open) and the stairgate is used correctly. Many thanks in advance!

Helping us to make it better!

We hope you are happy with the way our playgroup is run and as a committee of mums we welcome any suggestions and ideas of continuing to improve. We welcome anyone who wishes to help in any way in promoting, fundraising and organising playgroup and any forthcoming events.

Suggestion book

During every session of playgroup there will be a suggestion book available for all parents/carers to write in. If there is anything you would like to see changed, added, happen during playgroup then please let us know and we will do are best to put these in place.  Many of your suggestions have already been put in place such as ‘longer singing & story time with Angela’, ‘Water always available for adults & children throughout each session’,  ‘The safety of our children when the front door is left open’.

Monthly Visits

To enhance our playgroup and provide further support for our playgroup mums/carers each month we will try to have a visitor that will come in to discuss and promote their business which aims to support mother and baby/children. We hope you will find these visits beneficial and if you would like a particular area covered then we will try our best to find someone to come along. Alternatively if you know anyone then please let us know via our "Suggestion Book". Our first 2 visitors have been popular promoting baby slings & real nappies and hope you found these beneficial. Future events we hope to include a Massage Therapist trained in Pregnancy Massage and a consultant in Organic beauty & baby products.

Snack duties

We really appreciate everyone who provides our lovely treats & healthy snacks for our children each session and thank all those who help in addition to this. As our playgroup is expanding then so is the time taken to prepare and tidy up at snack time, we would kindly like to ask for extra help when clearing away to help the person on duty but also making sure that Angela has more time with the children singing and story time at the end of the session

Recipe books

Our popular Treats from playgroup are now available for you to make and enjoy in your own home. Our book has been very popular as they are easy treats for you and your children to bake. We hope to have a new edition soon especially for the summer holidays so don’t miss out! £4 per book!
